Level 3: Emotional Preparation (Tuesdays)

An absolutely incredible community full of amazing instructors and fellow classmates! Being absolutely new to acting, I felt very comfortable from the first class and meisner technique has been helpful to be present in all areas of life. Im excited to continue taking classes and workshops at Green Shirt and discovering more! This is a very supportive community where putting in the effort leads to real growth as a person and a performer, highly recommend to anyone interested in acting or just becoming more present as a person!

Michael Wood's on-camera class was very helpful and a good refresher for me. I've been doing commercial auditions for awhile but I was feeling like I kept sending tape after tape with no results. It was really discouraging. Anyway, the week after I started Michael's class, I had an audition that I got called back for and immediately put on hold. I didn't end up booking that one, but did book something else a bit later. I've continued to get fairly regular callbacks since the class. Michael really knows his stuff, cares about what he is teaching, and his insights into approaching on-camera work and auditions definitely made a difference!

I had an amazing experience at Green Shirt Studio! I took the intro improv course—Jimmy was so helpful in getting us out of our comfort zones, celebrating our wins, and troubleshooting our scenes. My group was great too, we’re all still connected :) I also took a sliding scale preview before the course. It was a really nice offering that helped me feel confident about committing to the full schedule! Highly recommend this place!!

I have rented from Jack at Green Shirt Studio countless times, and they have always been so accommodating and easy to work with every time. The space is really tailored to the needs of the performer and includes a kitchenette where folks can store food and hang out before an audition or during a break at rehearsal. Definitely check this place out if you need a place to host your next event!

I started taking classes here with no prior acting experience, and it really helped me to get more comfortable with public speaking in a way that felt very accessible even when it was challenging for me. All of the instructors I’ve met are so nice and welcoming. Would recommend :)

Coming in at the top of this year, I had zero experience and wasn't quite sure what to expect but I don't think I could've asked for a better introduction to the world of acting. From the instruction/instructors, to the feedback, to the wide array of classes and workshops available throughout the year, this experience has been one of a kind. Every staff member that I have encountered really encouraged me to dig deeper, listen and respond truthfully/as my genuine self, and hold space for me to grow as individual/actor. 10 out of 10, would highly recommend Green Shirt Studio to anyone who is interested in acting and even those who are already actors looking to hone in on their craft.

GreenShirt (GS) is such a beautiful space! They offer so much more than acting classes. What GS offers is a warm inviting space for anyone wanting to connect more with their authentic selves. You learn what it means to be truly present, live from your own truth, and to see yourself as enough! I can't stress enough how refreshing and energizing the GS studio is. Jack Shultz cultivates such a welcoming environment—I highly recommend giving it a try!

There’s so much I could say about Green Shirt Studio. It’s almost been a full year since I continued my growth as an actor here, and I couldn’t be more grateful for the experience. The 5 Levels of classes break down the craft in a way that helps you truly understand each step. You learn how to stay present, trust the process, and harness every moment like it’s the first time—every time. If you’re feeling plateaued or looking for fresh inspiration to take your acting to the next level, I absolutely recommend Green Shirt Studio. It’s been transformative for me.

I love Green Shirt and have learned so much being in class with Jack. He is an amazing teacher. Green Shirt has so many opportunities to grow as actors. You can take workshops on improv, 10 minute plays, audition tips and scene work.

I started taking classes at Green Shirt at the beginning of this year. I had zero training - the last time I’d acted in anything was when I was a kid - and was taking the first class just to see how it felt to dip a toe back in. Given that it’s now almost a year later and I’m finishing up the final level of the Meisner technique classes and loving it, clearly it felt great. The classes are methodical and very approachable - they start incredibly simply and steadily add complexity in very digestible ways. I won’t say the classes are easy - they take work, you’re learning and growing as you take them - but they are rewarding. Jack Shultz is an excellent instructor - he makes the space safe to take chances, to fail, and then get right back into it. I’ve taught things other than acting before, I’ve helped train other educators as well, and Jack has the goods. He cares, a lot, and has been unstinting with his time when any of us students had questions and very patient when we get stuck. Cannot recommend Green Shirt enough - if you are at all acting curious try the first level and see how it goes. If you’re not a beginner it’s still an amazing program - my classmates who had much more experience than I do have all learned quite a bit from the program as well.

Hands down, Green Shirt has provided the best acting classes I’ve taken in Chicago! Very welcoming and willing to meet each student where they are at. Professional teachers also provide their time outside of class to ensure students are feeling confident and supported in their learning. I can wait to get back into the room again! Update on 9.2.25 - Got back at Green shirt for their Decoding Shakespeare class and WOW I am so impressed with the teachers and how they folded classical text with Meisner technique - it's a great way to get your feet wet with Shakespeare in a comfortable and supported way.

I’m close to completing my 5th Level, and I absolutely love what I’ve learned about the Meisner method. Jack, Cordie, and Andrew are incredible teachers—caring, respectful, and professional. I truly appreciate the community culture they’ve created. They’re always so welcoming, and it’s clear that people value this environment, as they continue to return for classes and events time and time again. The studio strives to be a safe space for creativity and connection, and I believe they’ve succeeded. I also think that everyone, regardless of whether they’re pursuing a career in acting, could benefit from at least Levels 1 and 2. Bottom line: I highly recommend taking a class at Green Shirt Studio.

I've trained at Green Shirt, and performed in three of their 10-Minute Play Fests. They do a great job of cultivating a community for performers, writers, and directors, not only with classes, but also workshops and performance opportunities. I'll be continuing to engage with them!

Profound experience. I'm deeply grateful to Jack Schultz and my classmates. I joined, not knowing what to expect, just wanting to do something that let my emotions have the reigns. Class was perfect for that. We didn't memorize lines or do scenes. Instead class was structured around a series of partner exercises. They felt like two person meditation to me. Working closely with someone trying to be present, share and name an experience you were having together. We laughed, fought, and cried. Jack was amazing for giving just the right level of structure. We had activities, he gave feedback, there was always a plan. But it always felt like we had space. Space to explore, deviate, mess up, try again. Between work and family I don't have much extra time in life. I'm so glad I devoted 8 weeks to this class. I hope to do more in the future.

Greenshirt has done a fantastic job of welcoming everyone from all skill levels while managing to both challenge and embolden us in our individual, unique talents. The staff has been incredibly supportive and approachable, ready to work with you every step of the way. Greenshirt regularly offers students outside acting opportunities, workshops, and events which can be an invaluable resource for anyone looking to dive deeper into the acting world, or continue after finishing the core Meisner program. The Meisner program brought my acting skills and overall confidence in my performance to the next level and I’m excited to continue growing with everything Greenshirt has to offer!

I cannot recommend Green Shirt Studio highly enough! Every single instructor that I have encountered truly cares about students' learning, well being, and treating everyone with kindness and encouragement. The teachers here make sure everyone feels welcome, regardless of their experience coming in, and make sure folks are getting what they desire out of class to the best of their ability. Going through all levels of this Meisner program has left me with a feeling of readiness for auditioning and taking on roles. Additionally, there are many opportunities to perform, write, direct, audition, see performances, take workshops, and more. If you want to learn true acting technique in a supportive environment, this is the place to start!
