3 workshop sessions, a week of rehearsal, and 1 performance

See your play come to life from start to finish by participating in a series of three writing workshops and the Green Shirt 10 Minute Play Fest.

How’s it work?
Upon registration, you’ve reserved a slot in a three session writing workshop led by Green Shirt Instructor Cordie Nelson. Over three Saturdays you’ll meet with the group for writing exercises, learn tips and tricks for writing 10 Minute Plays, read pages, and get feedback.

Then a team of actors and directors will take your play and put it on its feet in the Green Shirt 10 Minute Play Fest with rehearsals starting on July 31 and the performance on August 3.

The Commitment
Writers are required to attend 3 writing workshops on Saturday July 6 – July 20, 10-1pm. Your first draft will be due on July 20 and your final draft is due on July 26. We hope you can also make the show on August to see your work in action!

The Festival Theme: Nostalgia
This summer Green Shirt is diving into nostalgia with our 10 minute play festival. Whether it’s memories of a family beach vacation or your first kiss during the 4th of July fireworks. We all get lost in the past sometimes, for better or worse. So let’s dig in and see what we find.

Each play should be roughly 10 pages long (a minute per page) and must include:

  • A reference to the 90s.
  • An extremely meaningful circumstance (or a big prep for one actor)
  • And a coffee mug

Attendance Policy

Closed Accordion

In order to get the most out of your work with us, our students should make showing up to every class on time a priority.

We understand that things do come up so if you know you’re going to miss a class, please give your instructor as advance notice as possible. This will help them get you caught up and not throw off the rest of the group. Scheduling a make-up class is possible but not guaranteed.

Students enrolled in our Meisner Acting Program can only advance to the next level if they’ve attended at least 6 of their 8 sessions. If a student misses more than 2 sessions, they will need to retake the level in order to advance in the program.

Cancellation Policy

Student Cancellation

We keep our classes very small to ensure everyone gets the best learning experience. Since we only have a very small amount of seats to sell, it is very costly when someone reserves a seat, and then backs out when we don’t have enough time to resell that seat. We hope you understand!

If a student is withdrawing from class more than 7 days prior to start date, the amount of the tuition paid including a $108 non-refundable deposit will be kept on credit at the studio for a year, to be used on a future class.

Alternatively, students who withdraw more than 7 days prior to the start date can keep $108 non-refundable deposit on file to be applied to a future class and any other payments made will be refunded to the original payment method.

If you drop the class ON THE DAY OF THE FIRST CLASS OR AFTER, the full tuition is non-refundable, non-transferrable, and may not be kept on file for a future class.

We appreciate you respecting this policy for the best experience for our instructors and students!

Please reach out at 773-217-9565 if you have any questions.

Studio Cancellation

Occasionally we’ll have to cancel a call due to low enrollment. We’re sorry if that happens to you! If we have to cancel a class you’ve signed up for, we will give you at least 48 hours notice and promptly start your refund process.

In the event that class is canceled due to circumstances beyond our control (including but not limited to extreme weather and pandemic related shutdowns), make-up classes will be scheduled as soon as it’s safe for our students and instructors to be together safely at the studio. In some cases classes may transfer to an online platform. If a student is unable to attend the rescheduled class due to circumstances beyond our control (including but not limited to extreme weather and pandemic related shutdowns) that student will receive credit on their account for the value of missed classes.

Zoom Workshop Sessions

The three writing workshops will be held online via Zoom.

About the Teacher

Cordie Nelson is a playwright and director in Chicago. She received her BA from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2012, where she assistant taught both graduate and undergraduate Meisner Classes under Professor Sean Boyd (who received his training from Steve Rapella and Bill Esper at UTA.) Post graduation, she taught independent Meisner training in the city, which qualified her students to surpass introductory levels in many storefront Meisner studios. In 2014 she received training as both a student and instructor for Green Shirt Studio’s Meisner Technique, studying under Sommer Austin and Andrew Gallant (who received their training from Larry Silverberg.) Since 2016 she has been teaching all course levels, from introductory to advanced scene study, at Green Shirt Studio. Cordie fell in love with this work the moment she was introduced to it, her skills have been reinforced by excellent teachers over a decade of study and practice. She cares deeply about her students and knows that, with hard work, this technique will cultivate an incredible artist in them.
