Description
In Level 2: Under Imaginary Circumstance, we more deeply explore the second half of Meisner’s definition of acting, ‘imaginary circumstance,’ through advanced exercises that broaden your imagination and help you ground the work in your unique point of view.
Then you will begin to bring the improvisational nature of Meisner’s work to dramatic text and understand how a memorized scene can feel like an ‘improvisation with words’ by learning our step by step process that help the words of a script work on you, allowing you to stay responsive, spontaneous, and emotionally alive even when you’re speaking memorized lines.
By the end of Level 2: Under Imaginary Circumstances, you’ll understand what it means to not rely on your brain to control your impulses and to instead give control over to the imaginary circumstances and your scene partner. Level 2 culminates with a closed scene showing for your fellow students.
Attendance Policy
In order to get the most out of your work with us, our students should make showing up to every class on time a priority.
We understand that things do come up so if you know you're going to miss a class, please give your instructor as advance notice as possible. This will help them get you caught up and not throw off the rest of the group. Scheduling a make-up class is possible but not guaranteed.
Students enrolled in our Meisner Acting Program can only advance to the next level if they've attended at least 6 of their 8 sessions. If a student misses more than 2 sessions, they will need to retake the level in order to advance in the program.
Cancellation Policy
Student Cancellation
If a student is withdrawing from a workshop more than 7 days prior to the day of the workshop, the tuition will be kept on file for a future class or workshop for a calendar year.
If a student withdraws from a workshop less than 7 days prior to the day of the workshop, the tuition is non-refundable or transferable.
We appreciate you respecting this policy for the best experience for our instructors and students!
Please reach out at 773-217-9565 if you have any questions.
Studio Cancellation
Occasionally we'll have to cancel a workshop due to low enrollment. We're sorry if that happens to you! If we have to cancel a workshop you've signed up for, we will give you at least 48 hours notice and promptly start your refund process.
In the event that class is canceled due to circumstances beyond our control (including but not limited to extreme weather and pandemic related shutdowns), a make-up will be scheduled as soon as it's safe for our students and instructors to be together safely at the studio.
In some cases classes may transfer to an online platform. If a student is unable to attend the rescheduled class due to circumstances beyond our control (including but not limited to extreme weather and pandemic related shutdowns) that student will receive credit on their account for the value of missed classes.

About the Teacher
Cordie Nelson is a playwright and director based in Chicago with a deep-rooted passion for Meisner Technique and over a decade of teaching experience. She received her BA from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2012, where she assistant taught both graduate and undergraduate Meisner classes under Professor Sean Boyd, who trained under Steve Rapella and Bill Esper at UTA. After graduation, she led independent Meisner training in Chicago, preparing students to move beyond intro levels in many local storefront studios.
In 2014, Cordie began her training as both a student and instructor at Green Shirt Studio, studying under Sommer Austin and Andrew Gallant, whose lineage traces back to Larry Silverberg. She has since taught every course level at Green Shirt—from intro to advanced scene study—and continues to bring her sharp eye and empathetic approach to each class. Her additional role as a Quality and Assurance Market Trainer for La Colombe in Chicago and Texas speaks to her strength in developing others, and her belief in the “see one, do one, teach one” method fuels her work. Cordie now serves as the Director of Teacher Development at Green Shirt Studio, a role that not only allows her to shape the next generation of teachers, but also deepens her own practice. She cares deeply about her students and knows that, with dedication, this technique can transform them into powerful, truthful artists.

About the Teacher
Anwar Khuri (they/them) rekindled their passion for acting right here at Green Shirt Studio after a long hiatus from the theater. In 2024 they completed the Meisner Acting Program levels 1-5 as well as the Teacher Training Program in 2025.
In the mid-80s Anwar began their training in highschool studying under Byrne and Joyce Piven at the prestigious Piven Theater Workshop (notable alumni include Shira Piven and her brother Jeremy, Joan and John Cusack, Lilli Taylor, Aiden Quinn and Kate Walsh). Anwar continued their theater training at Bard College before pivoting to filmmaking and eventually advertising. For the past 35+ years Anwar has worked in film production and advertising as a director, producer, creative director and mentor working on major motion pictures, music videos and tons and tons of commercials. Their extensive background in both advertising and filmmaking brings a unique perspective to the Green Shirt community. You can see their recent advertising work here.
Anwar believes that the Meisner Technique with its emphasis on living truthfully under imaginary circumstances coupled with the Green Shirt Studio values provides students with creative and emotional freedom in a safe, welcoming and open environment and that the benefits extend well beyond the stage. Sharing that insight and passion for acting thrills Anwar to no end.
