Description

Open Accordion

The Alexander Technique (AT) helps actors release tension, free the body, and connect more fully to impulse. In this workshop, we'll explore how AT can:

  • Enhance presence and grounding

  • Sharpen emotional sensitivity

  • Spark spontaneity and authenticity

  • Deepen your Meisner work by freeing the instrument from habitual tension

Through gentle hands-on guidance, we'll practice channeling impulses with immediacy - letting self-consciousness fade and connecting repetition to our gut impulses. Prerequisite: Green Shirt Studio’s Level 1 Meisner class.

Attendance Policy

Closed Accordion

In order to get the most out of your work with us, our students should make showing up to every class on time a priority.

We understand that things do come up so if you know you're going to miss a class, please give your instructor as advance notice as possible. This will help them get you caught up and not throw off the rest of the group. Scheduling a make-up class is possible but not guaranteed.

Students enrolled in our Meisner Acting Program can only advance to the next level if they've attended at least 6 of their 8 sessions. If a student misses more than 2 sessions, they will need to retake the level in order to advance in the program.

Cancellation Policy

Student Cancellation

If a student is withdrawing from a workshop more than 7 days prior to the day of the workshop, the tuition will be kept on file for a future class or workshop for a calendar year.

If a student withdraws from a workshop less than 7 days prior to the day of the workshop, the tuition is non-refundable or transferable.

We appreciate you respecting this policy for the best experience for our instructors and students!

Please reach out at 773-217-9565 if you have any questions.

Studio Cancellation

Occasionally we'll have to cancel a workshop due to low enrollment. We're sorry if that happens to you! If we have to cancel a workshop you've signed up for, we will give you at least 48 hours notice and promptly start your refund process.

In the event that class is canceled due to circumstances beyond our control (including but not limited to extreme weather and pandemic related shutdowns), a make-up will be scheduled as soon as it's safe for our students and instructors to be together safely at the studio.

In some cases classes may transfer to an online platform. If a student is unable to attend the rescheduled class due to circumstances beyond our control (including but not limited to extreme weather and pandemic related shutdowns) that student will receive credit on their account for the value of missed classes.

Space is limited!

We keep our classes small. Grab your spot before they’re gone!

Taylor Belew

About the Teacher

Taylor is a theatre artist and Alexander Technique teacher with a passion for embodied actor training methods. She holds a BFA and MFA in Acting, and received training in many methods throughout the years: Grotowski, Meisner, Chekhov, LeCoq, Linklater, Laban, and more. In addition to working as a professional actor and director in the Chicago area, Taylor has over eight years of experience teaching theatre and public speaking in multiple institutions of higher education.

Taylor completed her Alexander certification at the Balance Arts Center in New York City, where she still teaches group workshops as part of their global conference initiative. Her competitive gymnastics background and experience as a gymnastics coach invigorates her understanding of the human body in performance. Originally drawn to Alexander work to assist in performance situations, she discovered that the Alexander Technique addresses and improves how a person does anything. This qualifies Taylor to work on a variety of activities: from high-impact performance situations to chronic pain and issues of everyday life.

Taylor has led workshops across the country on managing performance anxiety, cultivating emotional intelligence, improving deep listening, optimizing the body for daily life, developing boundaries, and amplifying group creativity. She also serves as a public speaking and presentation coach for business executives in high-pressure performance environments. Taylor holds a BFA in Acting from the University of Mississippi, an MFA in Acting from the University of Georgia, and a Post-MFA in Applied Performance from Virginia Tech.
