We are excited to be partnering again with Slipstream Theatre Initiative to bring more of Green Shirt’s Meisner acting training to Detroit! Andrew Gallant (Green Shirt co-founder) along with Jack Schultz are leading a weekend Meisner Acting Intensive in Detroit Friday, 9/29 thru Sunday, 10/1.
Location: Slipstream Theatre Initiative, 460 Hilton Rd, Ferndale, MI 48220
**This Intensive is designed to be taken as a whole. If for any reason you can’t attend a portion of the weekend, but still hope to participate, contact us at 773-217-9565 to discuss.
Day 1: Introduction to the Meisner’s Repetition Exercise
(Friday, 9/29 from 7pm-10pm)
During our first evening of work together, we will explore Sanford Meisner’s innovative, foundational exercise, the Repetition. This work will train you to be thoroughly responsive, emotionally alive, spontaneous and absolutely grounded in the reality of what is happening at any given moment with any given person.
Day 2: Attention, Response and the Reality of Doing
(Saturday, 9/30 from 10am-5pm)
During the second day of work, new elements will be added to the exercises that will work to broaden your imagination, exercise your faith in given circumstances and ground your acting in your own unique point of view. You will reawaken instincts, deepen your impulses and find a visceral connection to action.
Day 3: Emotional Freedom and the Bridge to Text
(Sunday, 10/1 from 10am-5pm)
Day 3 is all about learning to connect every moment of your acting to personal meaning. The ‘Emotional Preparation’ exercises will give you the tools you need to truthfully meet the deepest emotional demands of any script. By the end of the day, we will begin to explore ways of bringing the improvisational nature of Meisner work to text.
