In this innovative scene study class, you will dive into the work of Pulitzer Prize winning playwright, Sam Shepard (True West, A Lie of the Mind, Buried Child). An actor himself, Shepard wields his own writing to create gritty, psychologically complex characters that are thrilling and always challenging to play. Azar Kazemi, who served as Ethan Hawke’s assistant director for the broadway production of Shepard’s A Lie of the Mind, teaches the class and brings with her a keen knowledge of Shepard’s theatrical style and vision. For 8 weeks, you will learn by working on scenes and monologues from Shepard’s work. You will deepen fundamental skills of listening, personalization, physicalization and practice staying present all while exploring the work of one of America’s most visceral and enigmatic playwrights.
Sundays (7/9 – 8/27), 6pm-9pm (Instructor: Azar Kazemi)
